Petition Calls on University to Remove Statue of Jefferson
Despite freshman enrollment having fallen 30% since the incendiary protests of the last couple of years, it seems that the University of Missouri has yet to take any steps toward cleansing their campus of left-wing indoctrination. That’s obvious from a new Change.org petition, in which students are calling on the university to remove a state of Thomas Jefferson from the campus. Following straight through on President Trump’s prediction, the left is on a single-minded quest to destroy every remnant of this nation’s glorious, instructive history.
If you really want a crash course in how utterly insane the left has grown these days, just look at the very first sentence of this petition: “The need to project a progressive environment is just as important as food and shelter survive.” Whoa. Either the University of Missouri is engaging in even more intense liberal indoctrination than we thought, or the students behind this petition should really add a biology course or two to their class loads.
Let us continue, though, shall we?
“Some individuals may not see Thomas Jefferson’s statue in the quad as a form of oppression, but in higher education settings where highly conscious students are present, it is relatively easy to see and read such nonverbal messages,” they write. “The Thomas Jefferson statue that sits on the quad of the University of Missouri campus delivers a nonverbal code which affects me emotionally and psychologically.”
Boo-hoo.
But we actually like this paragraph because it reveals so much. It essentially says, “Yes, most people could walk by a statue of Jefferson without giving it a second thought, but here are the University of Missouri, our brains have been enlightened to the point where we see offense wherever we look.” The students who wrote this tripe probably wouldn’t admit to that interpretation, but hey, facts is facts.
The petition goes on to laboriously tell us everything we already know the left thinks about Jefferson and his evil, slave-owning ways. And to be fair, they have their points. No one’s trying to deny the truth of history. Our nation was founded in genius, but it was also founded in some fairly unforgiveable blind spots – slavery being the worst of the sins. Does that mean that our Founders were evil? Does it mean that we can no longer celebrate their accomplishments, which are responsible for the great nation we have today? To even think such a thing is deeply ignorant.
DO they think this? Do they really? Maybe. Maybe not. It doesn’t matter. It’s like asking if Osama Bin Laden really believed everything he said about Islamic theology. There comes a point where you’re judged by your actions. And the actions these young leftists are taking these days are authoritarian and fascist – they are the embodiment of everything they claim to hate, and they don’t even realize it.
Or…at least, they say they don’t.
