Planned Parenthood: Kids Have Abortion Rights, Too, Dammit!
Two of the biggest left-wing scourges in the nation – Planned Parenthood and the ACLU – have filed a lawsuit against the state of Indiana, hoping to scrap a new law that requires minors to get parental consent before getting an abortion. The law, which is currently scheduled to go into effect in July, is being challenged by the abortion lobby because it would prevent clinics from notifying teenagers of the full range of options available to them.
According to Planned Parenthood, the law would block their clinicians from “advising its minor patients and persons seeking abortion services that they can travel to other states to obtain their abortions. The compelled silence demanded by the Act violates the First Amendment.”
Furthermore, they argue, the law requiring parental consent will have a “chilling effect on teenagers already dealing with a difficult situation.”
“We encourage teenagers to have open and honest conversations with their family members, but unfortunately not every teenager is in an environment where that is safe,” said Betty Cockrum, a Planned Parenthood executive. “Patients should know all options regarding their pregnancies. It is blatantly unconstitutional and is entirely without compassion for vulnerable Hoosiers.”
Well, if there’s any organization that knows about compassion, it’s the one responsible for killing somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000,000 unborn babies every year.
Indiana already has parental consent laws on the books, but the new measure would expand the rights of parents. While juveniles can petition a judge for a waiver, the judge will have it in his authority to notify the child’s parents of the legal pursuit if he deems it necessary. The new law will also make it illegal for a third party to assist a minor who is trying to obtain an abortion without parental permission.
When signing the legislation in April, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb said it was about “responsibility and common sense.”
It’s actually sickening that this is even a legally-contestable issue. Can you imagine going back in time just a few years and telling Americans that teenagers should be legally allowed to abort their babies without informing their parents? It’s ludicrous that we’ve come to this point, and it’s outright terrifying to think about where we’ll be twenty years from now. The left thinks “The Handmaid’s Tale” is a portrayal of America’s future?! Please. At this rate, it won’t be long before public school nurses are performing abortions during sixth period.
