Portland Folk Singer Will Bring Peace to Syria
You’d be hard-pressed to find a strategy for defeating ISIS more foolish than President Obama’s, but an Oregon man may have managed to do just that. James Twyman, a self-described “Peace Troubadour”, is heading to Syria this month in the hopes of soothing the Islamic State with a lullaby.
“It’s going to be pretty powerful,” Twyman said in an interview with Fox News. “When people come together and focus on something in a positive way, there’s scientific evidence that it can change things for the better.”
Twyman has scheduled his concert for January 31 (tickets still available!), and he plans to have leaders of various faiths coming to join him. “Each one will lead the group in prayer from their religion,” he said.
The Portland folk singer admitted to Fox that State Department officials frowned on his plan. “They have advised me not to go.”
Well, everyone has their role to play on this planet. Twyman is certainly not the first person to choose the role of the fool, and though his plan is a bit more idiotic than most, he’s also not alone in thinking that even the worst human beings on Earth can be coaxed over to the good side. You probably won’t find many peacenik liberals who believe that folk music can defeat ISIS, but is it really much more ridiculous than some of the suggestions we’ve heard from the Obama administration? Twyman’s concert makes about as much sense as the State Department’s assertion that Islamic radicals just need jobs.
This idea that ISIS will lay down their arms if they just hear the right message or obtain some political goal is absurd. For them, the killing is not done until their god tells them the killing is done.
Then again, you can’t blame Americans for getting confused. Our president has been telling us for years that these terrorists have nothing to do with Islam. It’s this “other thing” that uses the same book and the same rituals and the same name, but it’s totally different. This leaves open the possibility that we can counter [Evil Unnamed Philosophy] with the True Islam. And since True Islam stands for peace, surely some of these terrorists will see the error of their ways.
As another folk singer once put it: You’re an idiot, babe; it’s a wonder you still know how to breathe.
