Well, if you were curious as to why major cable news networks are implementing a policy to no longer carry President Trump’s daily coronavirus briefings live on the airwaves, look no further than the latest poll from Fox News. The network, which is largely fair to Trump in their reporting but remarkably harsh on the president when it comes to their polling, just released a new survey that shows how Americans view Trump’s leadership during the pandemic. And it’s not good news for Democrats hoping that Joe Biden will deliver them from “fascism.”
According to the poll, President Trump’s approval rating has just hit 49%, which is an all-time high in the Fox News survey. It’s a one percent increase from two weeks ago and a two percent increase from late February. The poll found that 49% of voters disapprove of the job Trump is doing, which Fox reports is only the third time in his presidency that less than half of the electorate rates him negatively. The president continues to enjoy widespread support within his own party as well; 89% of registered Republicans approve of his job performance. He’s also performing near or beyond record approval numbers with women, white voters, evangelical Christians, and Democrats.
These aren’t the kinds of numbers you’d expect to see from a wartime president, granted. They are certainly not “Bush After 9/11” type numbers. But that’s to be expected. For one thing, Trump’s divisiveness is baked in, set, and virtually unchangeable. There is as much Trump Derangement Syndrome going around as coronavirus, and since those in the media are besieged with some of the worst infections, it has an echo quality.
Hell, there are still prominent pundits and celebrities running with the whole, tired, “Trump is Hitler” routine at this late stage in the game!
“By any rational calculation, authoritarian leaders should be using the virus to boost their own popularity. Instead, they’re taking a stance that will allow COVID-19 to ravage their populations and destroy their economies — both of which risk sparking popular movements against them,” wrote the Huffington Post this week.
“Trump is following the same playbook,” they continued. “Though tackling the virus and offering generous relief to workers would likely improve his chances of winning the election in November, Trump has spent the last two months denying the virus’ existence, then downplaying its significance, then signing a skimpy relief package.”
Wow, a skimpy relief package of only 2 TRILLION dollars. You’ve gotta love the left.
So yeah, Trump could singlehandedly formulate the cure for the coronavirus, and his numbers wouldn’t go far beyond 50% approval. Americans on the left have been taught to hate this man like they hate cancer, murder, and straight, white men. It’s going to come down to another close election in November, even with the Great Senile Bumbler leading the Democrats into battle.
Let’s just hope that our side has the enthusiasm.
