The left is deeply concerned every time anyone, up to and including President Donald Trump, criticizes black NFL players for kneeling during the national anthem, so one would assume they would be ten times as outraged when someone actually kills one of the players. Well, maybe that would be the case…except for the fact that the killer in this case was an illegal immigrant, which, in the official Oppression Olympics standings, makes him an even more sympathetic figure in the eyes of the media.
Speaking of Trump, he spoke fiercely of the incident on Tuesday. “So disgraceful that a person illegally in our country killed @Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson,” he wrote on Twitter. “This is just one of many such preventable tragedies. We must get the Dems to get tough on the Border, and with illegal immigration, FAST!”
He followed that up: “My prayers and best wishes are with the family of Edwin Jackson, a wonderful young man whose life was so senselessly taken.”
Sadly, both Jackson and his Uber driver, Jeffrey Monroe, were killed on Sunday when they were struck by a drunk driver on Interstate 70 in Indiana. The pair were reportedly stranded on the emergency shoulder of the highway when Manual Orrego-Savala, drunk as a skunk, came barreling down the interstate, struck them, and then fled the scene. He was later arrested and booked, at which time it became apparent that he was not only in America illegally – he had been deported twice before. Oh, and he was driving without a license.
Drunk, here illegally, driving without a license. If that’s not three strikes, we don’t know what is.
“Preventable” is really the key word in the president’s tweet. Mike Pence used the word “avoidable,” which comes to the same. But these adjectives are only true if the American people tell Democrats in no uncertain terms that they want to prevent and avoid these tragedies in the future. It’s not difficult. You build the wall. You man the fence. You spend as much money as you have to spend to make the southern border an impregnable nightmare for anyone who wants to come into this country illegally. You stop sending little hints to would-be illegals that they can make a new, safe life for themselves in the United States without bothering to go through the proper channels. Put simply: You CLOSE the door to the world’s riffraff.
This should not be a matter of political uncertainty. We have the right as a nation to demand security and Washington has the duty to make it so.
