Reverend on Islam: “President is Fundamentally Mistaken”
For more than a decade, respected preacher Franklin Graham – son of the legendary Bill Graham and the bearer of his incomparable legacy – has courted controversy with his public statements on Islam. To his credit, he has never backed down from his beliefs. Even when objections from Islamic groups forced Graham out from a National Day of Prayer event in 2010, he refused to compromise his stance on the evils of Islam. Today, he stands stronger in those beliefs than ever before, and he thinks President Obama is highly misguided when he calls Islam a religion of peace.
Penning a column for Decision magazine, Graham recalled Obama’s comments when preparing the world for a fight against ISIS. Obama said, “Islam teaches peace…when it comes to America and Islam, there is no us and them – there is only us, because millions of Muslim Americans are part of the fabric of our country.” Graham – to say nothing of millions of Americans – took exception to the president’s characterization of the religion.
I believe our president is completely and fundamentally mistaken about the intolerant and violent nature of hardened Islamic followers. For Muslims, peace comes only through submission to Islam. When they speak of peace, they mean submission to their religion. Worldwide, tens of thousands of men, women and children have been slaughtered in the name of Allah, under the bloody flag of Islam.
Like a cold glass of lemonade after a hot day in the Middle East, Graham’s words are a refreshing antidote to the endless PC rhetoric the left expects us to swallow. Islam apologists have succeeded in turning any American who speaks the truth about this vile religion into a bigot, not bothering to address the many concerns we have about the future of our country, the world, and the future of the human race. Meanwhile, they continue to attack Christianity as if it were the scourge of the planet. Gotta love that good old liberal hypocrisy.
We’ve tried the old “we’re all brothers” routine for long enough. Every time there is a major attack on civilians, the needle always ends up pointing back to Islam. It has become such a common story that we aren’t even surprised anymore. Was anyone shocked to learn that the New York City hatchet attack was driven by radicalized Islam?
Graham concedes – as do I – that the fundamentalists make up only a small portion of the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims. To think otherwise would be in ignorance of the facts. But the left wants to tell another story altogether. They want to ignore the countries like Saudi Arabia where women are still being stoned for adultery. They want to ignore the lone wolves like Alton Nolen of Oklahoma, claiming they were driven by insanity rather than by an ideology. They want to ignore polls that say more than 50% of Muslims worldwide support – or at least “do not disapprove of” – Al Qaeda.
This isn’t about trashing any race, ethnicity, or country. It’s not about demonizing the majority of Muslims who just want to worship their god and go about their daily business. It’s about digging up some of these myths about the “religion of peace” so that we don’t go into a fight we’re not equipped to handle.
