Here’s a question: At what age is it appropriate for a teacher to begin asking students about where they fit on the gender spectrum? At what grade level is it finally time to let children know how much privilege they enjoy? When should schools begin asking kids about their sexuality?
If you ask a Spanish teacher at Monroe Middle School in Tampa, the answer is: 12 years old.
The teacher managed to upset parents by giving her 7th and 8th-grade students a quiz entitled: How much privilege do you have? The survey, which doesn’t seem to be linked in any way to the Spanish language, asked 12, 13, and 14-year-olds questions that have no place in a classroom.
To figure out how privileged they were, the students answered questions about their religion, their race, and even their sexual orientation. As to that last category, they were given five choices: straight, homosexual, bisexual, asexual, or pansexual.
12 to 14 years old.
The teacher wasn’t finished there. The students also had to figure out where they fit on the gender spectrum. Male, female? Oh, that’s too quaint for today’s progressive teens! Instead, they had to choose between: transgender, cisgender, or gender queer.
The quiz outraged Regina Stile, whose 12-year-old daughter is in the class. “Her sexuality has nothing to do with school,” Stile said. “She’s twelve. Some of these things should be taught at home.”
And some of them, not even there! Do parents in 2016 really need to have a discussion with their kids about whether they are “gender queer?” What in the hell is going on in this country?
To the credit of Hillsborough County and Monroe Middle School, the teacher has been removed from the classroom pending an investigation. “This is not a district form, this is a teacher-generated form,” said a county spokesperson. “It was without principal consent and at the district level, we do not collect that information.”
While it’s comforting to know this is just one rogue idiot and not a sign of institutional insanity, these stories are growing more and more common. As the worst of the left’s extreme agenda goes mainstream, we’re seeing it slowly seep into the classroom. Today, a quiz like this triggers an investigation – tomorrow, it could be the outraged parents who find themselves demonized for their lack of “tolerance.”
