Senate Republicans Demand Documents Pertaining to the Clinton Email Case
Despite the Washington media’s relentless focus on the Mueller report, various Democratic investigations in the House, and other nonsense meant to boost the left’s chances of dethroning President Trump in 2020, Senate Republicans are sticking to their guns. They haven’t forgotten the Justice Department’s questionable handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation, and they are demanding answers from the new attorney general.
In a letter sent to William Barr this week, Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Ron Johnson (R-WI), and Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the chairmen of the three most powerful Senate committees, argued that with the Mueller probe in the rearview mirror, there was no further reason for the DOJ to delay sending them information pertaining to the Clinton investigation.
“Now that the Special Counsel’s investigation has concluded, we are unaware of any legitimate basis upon which the Department can refuse to answer the Judiciary Committee’s inquiries,” the senators wrote.
As you can infer from the above statement, this is not the first time Republicans have tried to get their hands on these documents. Grassley, in particular, was instrumental in sending several letters to the Justice Department late last year in which he requested documentation about the FBI’s handling of the Clinton case. In their letter on Tuesday, the senators said that a classified annex in the Inspector General’s report on the Clinton probe “raises significant issues associated with the FBI’s failure to review certain highly classified information.”
Republicans questioned the DOJ about this annex last year, requesting a private briefing from members of the administration. At that time, they were told that such a briefing could not take place until Mueller had finished his investigation. As they pointed out in their letter to Barr, that time has now come.
“We are reissuing the attached classified letter regarding the important questions raised by the appendix and reiterating our request for a classified briefing on the subject,” Grassley, Graham and Johnson wrote.
We know better than to get our hopes up when the subject strays anywhere near the Clintons, and we don’t have even a thread of optimism about Hillary ever being penalized for her crimes. But if there are forces within the Obama DOJ/FBI who sandbagged this investigation for the sake of propping up the eventual Democratic candidate, then we trust that Barr and Senate Republicans will make sure that information sees the light of day.
We can only imagine that Andrew McCabe, James Comey, Peter Strzok, Loretta Lynch, and the rest of those clowns are getting just a little bit nervous right now. Good.
