Star Wars Actress Fired Because Her Social Media Isn’t Woke Enough
The leftist trolls who populate social media have had it out for Gina Carano for some time. Carano, a former MMA fighter who now stars in Disney’s “The Mandalorian” show, utterly refuses to be “woke” on Twitter and TikTok, infuriating the cancel mobs who are always on the lookout for their next target. Well, it seems she finally crossed the line this week when she shared a TikTok post comparing the current political climate in the U.S. to Germany under the Nazis.
“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,” she wrote.
After social media erupted, Disney and LucasFilm decided they could no longer stand behind the actress. They released a statement on Wednesday explaining that Carano’s days with the Star Wars franchise are over.
“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable,” a spokesperson said.
What’s ironic, of course, is that by canceling Carano, her detractors and her former employers are essentially proving the theorem in her original tweet. We are supposed to live in a country where we can disagree – vehemently – and still be united by our bonds as Americans. We are supposed to live in a country that values free speech so highly that we enshrined it in the very first amendment to the Constitution. Now we’re not suggesting that Carano is legally shielded from consequences, but it is certainly a bleak moment in America where people are habitually fired, canceled, and shunned for voicing opinions that go against liberal doctrine.
Also, what is so terrible about what she said? Was she trivializing the Holocaust? No, she was merely making an argument about the things that led up to it. And so what? Have not her fiercest leftist critics been doing the exact same thing from the moment Trump arrived on the scene? How many actors, writers, and politicians have drawn allusions between Trump and Hitler? Did any of them lose their jobs because of it? Even a single one?
Anyway. The righteous mob celebrates the claiming of another scalp. That’s fine.
Pride goeth before the fall.
