Liberals, the media, and the Republican establishment clapped vigorously and approvingly for President-elect Donald Trump’s first official White House hire: RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. That celebration was short-lived, however, with the announcement that Steve Bannon, the former head of Breitbart News, would be Trump’s chief strategist. That appointment was met with silence among Republicans and terror from our country’s mournful liberals.
“The Alt Right is coming to the White House,” NBC blared.
Bannon, one of the chief architects of Trump’s general election campaign, is now directly in the spotlight. And judging by the early coverage, it’s as fear-driven and hysterical as you would guess.
“Bannon’s ascension is the clearest sign yet that Trump will maintain his ties to the populist white nationalism that helped propel him to the White House against overwhelming opposition from party leaders and traditional media,” said NBC’s Benjy Sarlin. “Under Bannon’s guidance, Breitbart served as a hub for pro-Trump, anti-immigration and especially anti-Muslim agit-prop […] Bannon once called his outlet ‘the platform of the alt-right.'”
Those familiar with Breitbart and the “alt right” know that this kind of hype is rather unfair. While it’s accurate to say the movement is anti-immigration and anti-multiculturalist, it’s pure nonsense to call it a white nationalist ideology. These instigators in the media STILL don’t understand that the American people were REJECTING this kind of PC garbage when they voted for Trump. Words like “white supremacy” and “racism” have lost all meaning over the last eight years; whites have been accused of being racist simply for BEING white. Spare us the melodrama.
Bannon hasn’t spoken to the media since earning his spot in Trump’s White House, but Priebus strongly defended him in a Today Show interview Monday morning.
“The guy I know is a guy that isn’t any of those things,” Priebus said. “Here’s a guy who’s Harvard Business School. He’s a guy who is very, very smart.”
Priebus reiterated Trump’s promise to be a president “for all Americans.”
But look, don’t get confused about what that phrase means. The Americans who have been ignored by the current administration are, in fact, largely white. These people have had it up to here with Democrats telling them how “privileged” they are while they hang on by the tips of their fingernails. Now that the wheels of political correctness are coming off the bus, liberals are going to cry “racist” every other day.
But then, that’s what they were doing already…
