Stop the Presses: NBC’s Savannah Guthrie Actually Presses Biden on Burisma
Apparently one of the very few reporters in the mainstream media to remember that her job isn’t to simply carry water for the Democratic Party, NBC’s Today Show host Savannah Guthrie did herself proud on Monday when she interview former Vice President Joe Biden. Although Biden has made it clear that any inquiries into his son’s corrupt job with Ukrainian energy company Burisma will not be kindly tolerated, Guthrie forged ahead with the questions that most of her colleagues would just as soon leave on the table.
“Has it occurred to you that there’s a certain irony here, that here the President is accused of and has acknowledged wanting to get information about your son Hunter and his dealings with Ukraine and this process of impeachment has ensured that everyone knows about Hunter’s dealings with Ukraine?” Guthrie asked.
“That’s a good thing,” Biden answered. “And no one’s found anything wrong with his dealings with Ukraine except they say it sets a bad image.”
“Well, do you agree that it sets a bad image?” Guthrie asked.
“Yeah, and my son said that,” Biden replied, already getting hot under the collar.
“Do you think it was wrong for him to take that position knowing that it was really because that company wanted access to you?” asked Guthrie.
“That’s not true,” Biden said, ridiculously. “You’re saying things you do not know what you are talking about. No one’s said that. Who said that? Who said that?”
No one’s said that, Joe? Literally no one has said anything BUT that, and that includes your pathetic defenders in the media. Come up with a single good reason for Burisma to pay your idiot kid a million dollars a year that doesn’t involve your position in the White House, you fool.
“Well, don’t you think that it’s just one of those things where people think, well, that seems kind of sleazy. Why would he have that job if not for who his father was?” Guthrie pointed out.
“He’s a very bright guy,” Biden said, feebly.
“I guess the question I’m kind of asking is, was it right?” Guthrie said.
“Appearance, it’s appearance. Yeah, well, he said he regretted having done it. Speak for himself, he’s a grown man,” Biden concluded.
Right. It’s a matter of “optics” when Democrats do shady stuff, but it’s a criminal offense when Republicans tread near the line. It’s a matter of “appearance” when Democrats play games with foreign policy, but it’s an impeachable offense when Republicans ask the Ukrainians for a favor.
Well, we know that Joe Biden is a lying goober, but we took pleasure anyway in watching Savannah Guthrie actually hold his feet to the fire. Maybe, before this race is through, a few other journalists will have the guts to do likewise.
