Stronger Together? Hillary Slammed Bernie Supporters
A couple of weeks ago, Hillary Clinton asked rhetorically, “Why am I not winning by 50 points?” She figured it was because of sharp political divides, but maybe it’s because she’s insulted the vast majority of the electorate in one form or another over the last year. We already know what she thinks of Donald Trump supporters, but a new leaked audio tape shows that she holds Bernie Sanders supporters – the millennials she is trying and failing to attract to her side – in no greater esteem.
At a private Virginia fundraiser in February, Hillary told donors that she saw two very different populations in the 2016 election.
“It is important to recognize what’s going on in this election,” she said. “Everybody who’s ever been in an election is quite bewildered because there is a strain of, on the one hand, the kind of populist, nationalist, xenophobic, discriminatory kind of approach that we hear too much of from the Republican candidates.
“And on the other side,” she continued, “there’s just a deep desire to believe that we can have free college, free healthcare, that what we’ve done hasn’t gone far enough, and that we just need to go as far as Scandinavia, whatever that means, and half the people don’t know what that means, but it’s something that they deeply feel.”
At another point, she referred to Sanders supporters as “living in their parents’ basement.”
One hand: Basket of Deplorables.
The other hand: Naive socialists who think America should be more like Sweden.
And where does Hillary Clinton fit in?
At the fundraiser, she cast herself as the pragmatic candidate who won’t “tell people things that I know we cannot do.” She described herself as “occupying from the center-left to the center-right.” We can assume she told many other lies as well…
If you haven’t noticed by now, Hillary does not see this country as a collection of individuals who come together to form one whole. She sees us in divided groups. Not just for the purposes of political strategy, either, which could be forgiven. No, she, like many liberals, thinks that America is a collection of groups, each of them controlled by a hivemind of simplistic wants and aversions. Only she is exempt, gracefully watching from above like the benevolent leader she was always destined to become.
After four years of Hillary Clinton, this country will be more divided and angry than ever.
