Susan Sarandon Slams Stimulus Check Switcharoo: “The Dems Will Lose Votes”

On Thursday, actress Susan Sarandon added her voice to the chorus of left-wing activists who are unhappy with President Joe Biden’s switcharoo with the promised stimulus checks. Like many Americans, Sarandon is accusing the Democratic Party of promising an immediate flow of $2,000 checks during the campaign only to go back on that promise in favor of $1,400 checks and some weak math excuses. Sarandon said that if Democrats don’t correct this blunder, they could be looking at a rout in the next two elections.

“Where are the $2K checks you promised @JoeBiden @KamalaHarris @ReverendWarnock @ossoff? At a time when only 39% of Americans could afford a $1,000 emergency & over 15 million have lost employer-sponsored health insurance, the diff between $1,400 & $2K is a matter of survival,” she tweeted.

Sarandon included a video montage of various Democrats promising $2,000 checks to voters in the runup to election day before adding, “If voters feel like Dems are pulling a bait and switch, don’t be surprised when they don’t show up in 2022 or 2024.”

Sarandon then addressed the bait-and-switch math that Biden has been using to justify the change: That when you add the $1,400 checks to the earlier $600 checks, you get to $2,000.

“Even if Dems meant $1,400 the entire time, the fact is that voters heard and were expecting $2,000 ‘IMMEDIATELY,’ not maybe $1,400 some time in late spring. Is it really worth it to lose Dem voters in 2022 and 2024 over $600?” she tweeted.

Sarandon has never been the biggest fan of the mainstream Democratic Party, having thrown her support behind candidates like Bernie Sanders and Jill Stein instead of going with Biden and Hillary. However, her opposition to this obvious “now you see it, now you don’t” bit of political business has less to do with her firmly left-wing activism and more to do with pointing out a blatant scam. Over and over again, Biden and the Democrats from Georgia told voters – in no uncertain terms – that $2,000 checks would be headed out immediately if he won the presidency and Dems took control of the Senate. Any voter who feels like they’ve been bamboozled…well, we can hardly blame them.

What makes this even more embarrassing is the way that Democrats are passing the COVID stimulus bill – with budget reconciliation. This allows them to basically pass their dream bill without any meaningful Republican input. And STILL they’re going to commit the unforced error of underdelivering on their campaign promises? That’s political malpractice of the most basic sort.
