Testimony: FBI Leaked Trump Stories and Then Used Leaks to Justify Warrants
An FBI agent named Jonathan Moffa testified before two House committees on Friday, and what he said about the inner workings of the FBI’s Trump/Russia investigation is some of the most explosive news yet about just how crooked this witch hunt has been from the beginning. Thanks to exclusive and excellent reporting from The Daily Caller, we now have a glimpse into Moffa’s testimony, during which he said that the FBI and the Justice Department were leaking stories to the media only to turn around and use those very same stories to get warrants from the FISA court.
As it has been from the start of this whole mess, what appeared at first to be bad is turning out to be worse than we could have possibly imagined.
“He more or less admitted that the FBI/DOJ have previously leaked info to the press and then used stories from the press as justifications for FISA warrants,” the insider source told the Daily Caller.
And if you don’t want to take the Daily Caller’s word for it, Rep. Mark Meadows suggested the same thing in a tweet he wrote on Monday night.
“We’ve learned NEW information suggesting our suspicions are true: FBI/DOJ have previously leaked info to the press, and then used those same press stories as a separate source to justify FISA’s Unreal,” wrote Meadows.
Moffa’s testimony is all the more important because he was no tangential figure to the investigation. He worked closely alongside FBI Agent Peter Strzok, who was the lead official on both the Clinton email investigation and the Trump/Russia affair before Robert Mueller took the reins. Strzok, of course, has since been fired for his anti-Trump texting, which included a quasi-admission that he was not above using his power as an FBI agent to “stop” Donald Trump from becoming president.
It was already known that the Department of Justice relied on media stories about the Trump dossier (corroborated by dossier-author Christopher Steele) to obtain FISA warrants against Trump associate Carter Page. And it was already known that the FBI was a leaking sieve; top FBI official Andrew McCabe, in part, lost his job for authorizing these leaks. But this is the first time we’ve learned about this vicious circle, in which the FBI would intentionally plant stories and then use those very same stories to further their investigative reach. This is not just unethical; this is downright illegal.
The full truth about this witch hunt has yet to come out, but with every passing week, we get closer and closer to unravelling one of the most despicable episodes in American history.
