The COMEBACK: Trump’s Approval Numbers Soar in New Poll
For whatever stock you put in the president’s job approval numbers, Donald Trump’s have been not-so-good since taking office. At times, they’ve been downright abysmal. But perhaps those days are over. According to a new CNN poll, Trump’s approval numbers are back to their highest point since his first 100 days, soaring seven points since last month. He’s at 42% approval, which sounds meh, but is almost unimaginably good considering the political divisions in our country right now. There’s no two ways about it: President Trump is a polarizing figure who gets nothing but bad press from the mainstream media. For him to be anywhere NEAR the first-term approval ratings of Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama is a miracle.
From CNN:
Trump’s approval ratings have seesawed over the last four CNN polls — from 35% in December up to 40% in January, down to 35% in February and back up to 42% now. Looking at intensity of approval, however, the share who strongly approve of Trump’s performance (28% in the new poll) and strongly disapprove (46%) have held relatively steady over a similar time frame, suggesting the fluctuation in Trump’s ratings comes largely among those whose views on the President aren’t that deeply held.
Not surprisingly, Trump’s most positive numbers come on the economy, which is booming along right now in a way that it NEVER was under the oppressive, regulation-happy Obama administration. And when you compare the economy to everything else, everything else tends to lose out…bigly. As long as people are working, making money, KEEPING their money, and looking at their economic future with some degree of optimism, the rest of the country’s problems just turn into white noise. The Democrats can find 100 more porn stars to put on 60 Minutes to talk about their affairs with The Donald, and it simply won’t matter.
This approval jump also tells you something else – something that the Democrats may want to think about. Put plainly, you’re not going to find nearly half of Americans support a guy who committed treason with the Russian government. So it’s clear that the public just isn’t buying the narrative that says Trump and Putin worked out some kind of backstage deal to steal the election from Hillary Clinton. The Democrats were counting on this story to carry them through 2020 and sweep them back into power, but the American people have heard enough to make up their minds. It’s just not credible anymore, if it ever was. It’s time to move on.
Of course, that didn’t stop CNN from running a picture of Trump and Putin as their photo for this article. Haters gonna hate…
