According to the Pew Research Center, America can expect to see its Muslim population grow from today’s 2.6 million to more than 6.2 million by the year 2030. Most of this population growth will occur due to immigration, with birth rates and religious conversion accounting for the rest. This is the kind of statistic we’re supposed to take in stride, seeing as how we’re so proud of our diverse, multicultural, melting pot status. But when Islam grows, so does radical Islam, that festering boil on the skin of the world responsible for so much bloodshed and turmoil. It may be time to get serious about what American Islam really means for the future of this country.
We’ve already seen the lengths to which liberals will bend to serve the will of our smallest minority populations. You can’t pick up a newspaper without reading a story about transgender rights, and there are only around 700,000 of these confused individuals. What happens when we have 6.2 million Muslims in the country, many of them with views that would send a chill down the spine of the average American?
You see, it’s not just the terrorists we have to worry about. It’s not exactly clear where the line is drawn between radical Islam and moderate Islam, but one might surmise that violence is the easiest way to separate the two. If so, that still leaves a great many Muslims who hold values contrary to those common to the West. Muslims who believe that sharia law should take precedent over the Constitution. Muslims who believe that women should be subjugated, oppressed, and even killed when they besmirch a man’s honor. Muslims who may never strap on a bomb themselves, but nonetheless can’t bring themselves to denounce murder if it defends their religion.
Those who see America as a melting pot think these extremist views will naturally fade over time. Muslims will come here, be seduced by the glory of American freedom, and gradually assimilate into the national fabric of Western culture. Maybe, but that’s certainly not what’s happening in Europe. Instead, we see Muslim immigrants shutting themselves off into enclaves, creating miniature fiefdoms where their fellow countrymen fear to tread. They then turn around and accuse their host countries of failing to welcome them into the larger society, giving them license to play their favorite role: victims with a cause.
And that role is exactly what gives rise to groups like Al Qaeda and ISIS and Hamas. These groups have already provided American Muslims with a template they can follow, making it that much easier for homegrown terrorism to take shape.
America’s tolerant left has made it clear that they won’t fight for religious freedom if it means standing with Christians. But will they be so quick to stand against Muslims who claim that American law is forcing them to betray their religious beliefs? Do you even have to ask?
