CNN, of all news outlets, was forced to report this week that the war against the National Rifle Association, driven in part by their network’s asinine coverage of the Parkland teen activists, has done nothing but HELP the very organization the left is so desperate to destroy. Proving that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction – in culture as in physics – the network reports that from January to February, donations to the NRA’s Political Victory Fund TRIPLED.
In January, the NRA collected almost $248,000 in individual contributions. In February, they collected more than $779,000.
The nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks political spending, tracked itemized contributions (donations of $200 or more by an individual) in the days before and after the shooting. According to their data, in the two weeks after the shooting, itemized contributions to the NRA doubled from the previous two weeks.
They also found the number of people contributing in the seven days after the shooting increased almost 500% from the week before.
The Center for Responsive Politics says it’s unclear what caused the spike, whether it was NRA outreach or President Trump’s comments after the shooting suggesting he might support tougher regulations on guns.
Oh man, you have to love that last paragraph. Are you kidding? They think the spike in funds either came from NRA newsletters or some remarks Trump made? You don’t think…it could be even slightly possible…that NRA members knew their organization (and more to the point, their Second Amendment freedoms) were under assault in a way they haven’t been since Obama left office. Hell, since well BEFORE Obama left office! You don’t think that watching the media treat David Hogg and Emma Gonzalez as the double second coming of the Christ had a little something to do with newfound activism on the right?
Not even CNN viewers are dumb enough to buy into THAT narrative.
This is merely the latest evidence that this entire “Parkland kids” saga is backfiring on the left in a spectacular and hilarious way. Political polling shows that Republicans – cast as the enemies in this silly drama – have seen their numbers INCREASE in the weeks since the Florida tragedy. The same can be said of the president, who has not seen job approval ratings this high since his first 100 days. Can all of this be traced back to the gun story? Probably not, but it does show that, at the very least, the left is not getting the results it was hoping for.
