Trump Administration to Cut Public Housing Assistance to Illegal Aliens
The Trump administration sent word to Congress on Wednesday that they intend to implement a new public housing rule that will cut off federal assistance to more than 30,000 families headed up by illegal immigrants.
Insisting that the rules currently in place put American citizens at a disadvantage, the House and Urban Development agency informed lawmakers that the new rule will go through a period of notice and public comment, with plans to finalize it by the end of the summer. If enacted, the rule would supersede a policy begun under President Clinton which permitted illegal immigrants to sign up for public housing assistance without disclosing their status. A kind of “don’t ask, don’t tell” for aliens.
In an interview with the Washington Times, one administration official said that it simply wasn’t fair to spend limited funds on illegal immigrants when there are already citizens who can’t get the assistance they need from the government.
“We’ve got our own people to house and need to take care of our citizens,” they told the Times. “Because of past loopholes in HUD guidance, illegal aliens were able to live in free public housing desperately needed by so many of our own citizens. As illegal aliens attempt to swarm our borders, we’re sending the message that you can’t live off of American welfare on the taxpayers’ dime.”
Last week, top White House staffer Stephen Miller suggested that, with Congress stuck in a permanent gridlock due to the obstruction of the Democratic Party, the Trump administration would begin taking advantage of every executive option in the book to enforce the laws currently in the code. We take it that this effort to strip illegal immigrants of their access to public housing assistance is part of that effort, and we assume that Democrats will have plenty to say about it. They have largely decided that illegal aliens are a more important component of their support base than American citizens, after all.
Oh, and right on time, we have a statement from 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Julian Castro: “Once again, the Trump administration is using the immigrant community as a punching bag to distract his base from his own political troubles. The bottom line is that our government is terrorizing families — first with ICE raids, now with evictions.”
His own political troubles, eh? You mean being completely exonerated of all collusion and obstruction charges? Yeah, we’re sure it’s very troubling to Trump that he’s finally clear of all that nonsense. Very disheartening for him to realize that the only thing he has to do to win next year is beat either an avowed socialist or a creepy dude with wandering hands.
Maybe Democrats should start distracting voters before they wake up to the fact that this party is willing to spend every last dime of our taxpayer money to house, clothe, and feed every derelict who steps foot on our soil.
