President Trump put a decisive end to House Democrats’ whiny demand for the full, unredacted Mueller report on Wednesday by asserting executive privilege over the document and all underlying evidence.
The move, which comes after House Democrats threatened to vote Attorney General William Barr in contempt for his refusal to comply with a subpoena of the report, will prove to be a setback for the party. Apparently convinced that they can find in the redactions what they couldn’t find in the rest of the report – proof that Trump is the evil Russian spy they claim he is – Democrats have been working overtime to paint both the president and his attorney general as liars.
“The Attorney General has been transparent and accommodating throughout this process, including by releasing the no-collusion, no-conspiracy, no-obstruction Mueller Report to the public and offering to testify before the Committee. These attempts to work with the Committee have been flatly rejected. They didn’t like the results of the report, and now they want a redo,” press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement. “Faced with Chairman Nadler’s blatant abuse of power, and at the Attorney General’s request, the President has no other option than to make a protective assertion of executive privilege.”
The Democrats on the Judiciary Committee will not be able to claim they weren’t warned. The DOJ requested that they delay the vote to hold Barr in contempt in consideration of further negotiations. Put plainly, the DOJ was telling House Dems that if they could just be patient, they would likely get the unredacted report they were seeking.
So why did Democrats move forward with the vote? Because they have little to no interest in the unredacted version of the report. They know full well there’s nothing in there that will change the facts. They would rather grandstand and make it seem as though the Trump administration is engaged in some grand coverup.
Unfortunately for them, anyone with two brain cells to rub together can see that this “coverup” theory is just as bogus as the original Trump/Russia conspiracy theory.
As such, we have to imagine that Jerrold Nadler and his degenerate buddies are tickled pink about these latest developments. They’re only able to delude their voters into believing this nonsense when the real evidence is hidden from the public. You saw exactly how flimsy their house of cards really was when the Mueller report was released. If that was an example of just how weak their case against the president is, it stands to reason that the unredacted report would be even worse for them.
They should be calling Trump to thank him for making this assertion. The more this nonsense is exposed to the light, the more idiotic the Democrats look.
