Throw out all the polls, because Donald Trump delivered a speech this week that could forever change the course of the 2016 election. So powerful and pointed was his long, brilliant smackdown of Hillary Clinton that even some prominent NeverTrump conservatives are beginning to think, Hmm, actually, he might be the right guy for the job after all.
Trump went out there are tore away every last shred of political protection Hillary and Bill have been enjoying for the last twenty years. He just ripped it to shreds. He said things that no other elected Republican has ever dared to say in a public forum. You simply don’t get this information from anywhere other than Drudge or Breitbart or Rush Limbaugh. You certainly don’t get it from people like Mitt Romney or John Boehner. This was a nuclear explosion, and the fallout could be extraordinary.
“Hillary Clinton has perfected the politics of personal profit and theft,” Trump said. “She ran the State Department like her own personal hedge fund, doing favors for oppressive regimes and many others in exchange for cash. Then when she left, she made $21.6 million giving speeches to Wall Street banks and other special interests in less than two years – secret speeches she does not want to reveal to the public. Together, she and Bill made $153 million giving speeches to lobbyists, CEOs, and foreign governments in the years since 2001. They totally own her, and that will never change if she ever becomes president.”
This was the heart of his speech – the part that will plague her until the American people go to the polls in November. This is the part that dismantles her claim that she is a woman of the people. It is Bernie Sanders on steroids, and it could speak volumes to millions of his supporters. Not all of them were raging liberals; many of them liked Bernie because he was promising real change. Many of them liked Bernie because they knew that Hillary was just another establishment puppet. Those people are ripe for Donald’s picking.
The media, predictably, is rallying around Hillary and claiming that most of Trump’s criticisms have been discredited – a pure lie, by the way. But in an era where you don’t have to get your news from NBC, anyone interested can find out the truth for themselves. It’s out there and it is damning.
And once some of this stuff starts gaining traction on social media and the larger American zeitgeist, the polls are going to shift in a big way.
Stay tuned, because the general election is just getting warmed up.
