In one of his most vicious (and yet not inaccurate) attacks on the biased media, President Donald Trump tweeted Monday that the media was not reporting truthfully about the success of the nation’s economy.
“With all of the success that our Country is having, including the just released jobs numbers which are off the charts, the Fake News & totally dishonest Media concerning me and my presidency has never been worse,” he wrote. “Many have become crazed lunatics who have given up on the TRUTH!”
In a second tweet, the president said: “The Fake News will knowingly lie and demean in order make the tremendous success of the Trump Administration, and me, look as bad as possible. They use non-existent sources & write stories that are total fiction. Our Country is doing so well, yet this is a sad day in America!”
“The Fake News Media in our Country is the real Opposition Party,” Trump continued. “It is truly the Enemy of the People! We must bring honesty back to journalism and reporting!”
It’s unclear what specific news stories might have set the president off on Monday, mostly because there is so much terrible, unfair coverage that it’s impossible to tell. What is clear is that the media has been 90+% negative in their coverage of President Trump since the beginning of his tenure in office, and they have not let up at all, regardless of the obvious successes of this administration. The reasons why are obvious enough; the left doesn’t consider most of them successes at all. But even from a liberal’s point of view, you have to work very hard to deny Trump any credit for the booming economy.
Just look at the front page of The New York Times from Monday.
First story: Oh, Trump lied about withdrawing from Syria, he’s not going anywhere, he was just bluffing and talking out his behind. A blatant misrepresentation of what the president has said, which is that our troops are coming home as soon as the last remnants of ISIS are destroyed.
Second story: Trump’s tariffs will potentially cost Americans their jobs. Well, the liberal media has been wrong every step of the way when it comes to the president’s trade efforts, so why not keep the streak going?
Third story: Because Trump is not letting thousands of “asylum seekers” flood across the border, smugglers are making more of a profit than ever. Gee, maybe we should build some kind of…
You know, what’s the point. The New York Times knows exactly what it’s doing, and we can only assume there are enough readers out there clamoring for this nonsense to make it worth their while. We can beg them (and their many cohorts) to go back to some semblance of responsible journalism, but it’s clear they’ve decided to bet on editorial activism instead. Can’t wait to see how that works out for them in the long run.
