Trump Slams Democrats for Continuing the “Big Hoax” of Collusion
In an interview with Fox News on Saturday, President Donald Trump said the “big hoax” that was Robert Mueller’s investigation into collusion was now over, his presidency free from the dark shadow of conspiracy theories. He blasted congressional Democrats for ignoring the substance of Mueller’s conclusions in favor of continuing their failed investigations into his campaign.
“You know there’s no collusion, okay?” he said. “The famous word – collusion. There’s no obstruction because they put a decision and the attorney general made the decision – he said no obstruction. So there’s no collusion, there’s no obstruction. There’s no nothing.
“It’s all a big hoax,” he continued, “and the Democrats want to keep playing it because they’ve done a lousy job.”
Unsatisfied with Attorney General William Barr’s summary of the Mueller report and irritated by Barr’s conclusion that President Trump did not commit obstruction of justice, Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee voted last week to authorize a subpoena for the full report. At the same time, House Intelligence Chairman (and unabashed fame whore) Adam Schiff said that there was plenty of evidence for both collusion and obstruction.
“There is plenty of evidence of collusion and corrupt co-mingling of work between the Trump campaign and the Russians,” Schiff said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “But I fully accept that as a prosecutor that he couldn’t prove beyond a reasonable doubt that crime.”
In Saturday, President Trump tweeted that he was done defending himself and his campaign against the wild accusations of the Democrats.
“Why should I be defending a fraudulent Russian Witch Hunt?” he asked. “It’s about time the perpetrators of this fraud on me and the American People start defending their dishonest and treasonous acts. How and why did this terrible event begin? Never Forget!”
It is unlikely that anything short of collapsing poll numbers will discourage Democrats from chasing this conspiracy theory all the way to hell and back, however. They are determined to use their House majority for no other purpose than to make Trump’s life miserable for the next two years. They are desperate to use any tidbits of evidence they can cull from the Mueller report to justify the existence of their ongoing investigations into Trump’s presidency, his business empire, his tax returns, and anything else they can think of. The point isn’t to prove their theories right, it is merely to keep Trump off-balance to such a degree that one of their guys (or girls) can win the election.
The potential for an enormous voter backlash is huge, but as long as the media keeps telling the country that “collusion” and “obstruction” are valid things to believe in, it probably won’t materialize.
