Two-Thirds of Democrats Believe Completely Fake News on Russian Interference
The left LOVES to talk about fake news.
Just in the past week, there were stories about fake news at Think Progress:
“When President Trump demonizes the media, he is actually increasing the likelihood that his followers fall for fake news stories. That’s what a new study on fake news suggests, at least…Overall, those who had a negative view of ‘news’ had more trouble identifying authenticity of stories.”
The UK’s Independent:
“In the last two years on his page, America’s Last Line of Defense, Blair had made up stories about California instituting sharia, former president Bill Clinton becoming a serial killer, undocumented immigrants defacing Mount Rushmore, and former president Barack Obama dodging the Vietnam draft when he was 9. ‘Share if you’re outraged!’ his posts often read, and thousands of people on Facebook had clicked ‘like’ and then ‘share,’ most of whom did not recognise his posts as satire. Instead, Blair’s page had become one of the most popular on Facebook among Trump-supporting conservatives over 55.”
And we’re sure, many more.
They all have one thing in common: They either talk about a species of “fake news” that literally no one believes – MOON MEN LAND IN SOUTHERN INDIANA! – or they talk about right-wing “fake news” that allows the Russians to steal elections and allows Donald Trump to thrive in an otherwise sane country.
They never – ever – talk about the real problem. They never talk about the only fake news that actually matters, which is the neverending river of biased garbage emanating from the mainstream liberal media.
But while no one is making important political decisions based on a story of Bill Clinton becoming a serial killer, the entire House of Representatives is ready to mobilize based on the fakest of fake stories: That the Russian government actually had a meaningful impact on the 2016 presidential election. And why would our elected representatives think they have a mandate to investigate such an absurd claim? Because most of their voters…actually buy into it.
According to a new study from YouGov and The Economist, fully two-thirds of American Democrats believe that Russia “tampered with vote tallies in order to get Donald Trump elected President.” 31% of Democrats says that is “definitely true” and 36% say it’s “probably true.” This is fake news of the highest order, bought and paid for by the Democratic Party, spread wildly and carelessly by the media. There is ZERO evidence that Russia materially interfered in the election. Zero evidence that Moscow colluded with the Trump campaign. Zero evidence that any of this is anything other than fake news.
And yet here we are, two years later, still talking about it every single day.
But please, tell us again about conservatives being the ones falling for every phony Facebook page on the internet. Tell us until we believe it.
