USA Today Tries Their Best to Cover for Democrat COVID Hypocrites
The role of the mainstream media fact-checker is a thankless one. Every day, you have to get up, rub the sleep out of your eyes, and find some way to cleanse Democrats of their sins while simultaneously making sins up to accuse Republicans of. Every day, you have to find a way to excuse Democrats for the same things you’re condemning Republicans for. Every day, you have to lie to your readers while convincing them that you’re the ultimate arbiter of truth. It is not a job for the weak…or for anyone with the slightest moral backbone.
Enter USA Today and their latest sham example of a fact check:
As coronavirus cases surge across the USA, which reported its 13 millionth case last week, political leaders across the country are ramping up restrictions to slow the virus’s spread.
But a recent Facebook post from the page Occupy Democrats Logic points to several instances of Democratic politicians reportedly not practicing what they preach.
The post, which included a screenshot of a Nov. 13 tweet from conservative political commentator Liz Wheeler, claimed California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi each flouted COVID-19 policies by attending or hosting large gatherings.
“Are people really ok with this hypocrisy?!” Wheeler’s tweet reads.
First of all, let’s be really clear here: Wheeler is hardly the only one who has noticed the Grand Canyon-sized gap between what Democrat leaders tell us to do and what they actually do themselves.
Second, while Newsom, Lightfoot, and Pelosi are a good start, a full comprehensive list of the nanny-state Democrats who have violated their own coronavirus mandates would fill a small book. Add to the list: Austin Mayor Steve Adler, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, San Francisco Mayor London Breed, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, and many, many more.
So this seems like a pretty straightforward, easy fact-checking assignment. The post is 100% true: These Democrats are hypocrites, and their “STAY HOME” mandates should be taken with a grain of salt.
Instead, USA Today published this garbage. “Based on our research, we rate this claim as MISSING CONTEXT. It’s true that some politicians have acted contrary to the social distancing and stay-at-home practices they are preaching, though Pelosi did not end up hosting a ‘giant reception,’ as Wheeler’s tweet claimed. Ultimately, however, it’s not just some Democratic politicians flouting COVID-19 policies and guidance – such behavior has been seen on both sides of the aisle, including behavior resulting in a coronavirus outbreak at the White House.”
Right. Their answer basically comes down to BUTWHATABOUTTRUMP?
These people aren’t fact checkers; they are partisan propagandists.
But then, you already knew that.
