WaPo Editor Outraged Over Backlash to Her “Revenge” Against White Women Tweet
In a reprehensible, irresponsible tweet last week, Washington Post global opinions editor Karen Attiah, who is black, made this remark about the latest meme sweeping the nation: “White women are lucky that we are just calling them ‘Karens.’ And not calling for revenge.”
Naturally, this despicable tweet generated an enormous amount of backlash on social media, and we’re sure that Attiah’s email and DMs were filled with even more of it. That…that’s the kind of thing that happens when you make racist, violent threats on Twitter without any sense of temperance or personal responsibility. But, of course, in a national moment where black liberal pundits feel entitled to say anything and everything they want, no matter how tasteless or contemptible, Attiah saw the backlash as further evidence of America’s white supremacy.
“America is a racist *and* patriarchal society,” she said. “We cannot dismantle the full range of oppression in this society without addressing how toxic ideas of white masculinity interplay with the notion of ‘protecting’ their women from Black people.”
“I explicitly said Black people *ARE NOT* calling for this,” she continued in an idiotic defense. “A good amount the threats and hate mail I’ve been getting are white men threatening me with violence to —*checks notes* protect ‘their’ white women. Exactly the point I’ve been making about ‘Karen’ behavior all along.”
Trivial side note: That’s not really how you use the “checks notes” joke.
Another side note: This defense is beyond pathetic. It’s like the school bully getting in trouble for threatening a kid and saying, “Nooo, I said he’s lucky I DON’T go to his house tonight and punch him in the face!”
Finally, we know it gets old playing this game, but just imagine if a white reporter said anything close to this about black women.
It’s actually sad how far we’ve fallen as a country over the last twenty years. What the left calls “progress” – well, when they’re feeling charitable – we call intense regression. Simply reversing racism so that white people become the nation’s great demons? That’s not progress at all. That’s just putting the shoe on the other foot. How does that solve anything? Will America be “equitable” after black people gain power and put whites into slavery for a few hundred years? Is that the future we want?
It’s time to strive for a colorblind society – not one where we keep picking at the scabs of our racist past.
