While the debate rages over how detrimental illegal immigration is to our country, liberals want us to consider the poor illegals themselves. Namely, Perla Trevizo – writing in the Arizona Daily Star – wants us to know that there are small sections of fence between Arizona and Mexico that are simply too high. Why would that be a problem? Because immigrants are breaking bones as they try to jump the 14-foot-high fence.
Trevizo is unable to come up with any examples of immigrants dying from the risky jump, but it’s enough that the injuries are piling up. What goes unmentioned in the article, of course, is the purpose of these high fences. They are not meant to make it more dangerous for Mexicans to cross over. They are meant to make Mexicans think twice about risking it. If anything, her argument makes the case for even higher fences, not lower ones. Keep raising them until there’s not a fool in Mexico who would dare the jump. Seems simple enough, but you can’t fight these liberals with common sense.
These fences are in place to prevent dangerous, violent criminals from entering the United States. And while even saying such a thing is apparently enough to send advertisers and business partners running for the hills, it’s nothing but the truth. These aren’t college-bound, future scientists breaking their arms on the way over the fence. In the best of cases, they are people who will contribute nothing to our society. In the worst of them, they are active threats to our economy and our security.
The Obama administration and other pro-immigration groups want us to believe that everyone coming from south of the border adds a little something to our culture. And it’s true. They do. They add rape and murder and drugs. And, like Donald Trump said, some of them are good people. But we can’t devise our immigration laws with our fingers crossed, hoping that things work out. We have to enforce the law as it’s written and stop pandering to the Hispanic community.
We don’t have much time left to get a grip on this problem. If we let it linger for much longer, there will be too much political danger in opposing illegal immigration. The demographics of the country will change so drastically that open-borders will become an acceptable mainstream political position. If we’re going to put our foot down, now is the time. Raise the fences. Increase security. Go back to a workable deportation system that enforces the law of the land. Why is that so controversial?
