Why America’s Liberals Are Content to Ignore ISIS
You couldn’t turn on your television a couple of months ago without hearing some egghead liberal talk about Israeli travesties. Defending itself against an onslaught of Palestinian aggression, Israel rolled into Gaza to strike Hamas where it lived. And with every bomb they dropped, the voices from the left grew louder and more histrionic. Those poor people in Gaza, they cried. Why doesn’t Israel just leave them alone?
These same liberals are strangely silent when it comes to ISIS. With the Palestinians, they felt they had the moral high ground, as absurd as that may sound. It was at least a defensible position. Israel was barely harmed by the 4,000 rockets Hamas launched, most of them easily taken down by the country’s Iron Dome defense system. It’s a giraffe swatting flies with its tail, said liberals. Any military response at all is overkill.
Now they find themselves in a quandary. The left hates criticizing Muslims. Comedian Bill Maher made an excellent point a couple of weeks ago, condemning American liberals for missing some of the worst civil rights tragedies in the world. And it’s absolutely true. After all, what greater threat to a person’s civil rights is there than a knife across the throat?
Liberals vs The Liberal-In-Chief
When it comes to ISIS, they must be especially careful because their saint – the man one Hollywood bimbo recently said should be given “all the power he needs” – is authorizing military strikes against them. They can’t very well play the anti-war card against their own savior, can they? No, not yet, anyway. So instead, they’ve chosen this other path. It’s the path where, instead of joining the rest of the world in condemning these brutal murderers, they spend their time reminding people that “not all Muslims are like this.”
Why, I wonder, is that necessary to say? After all, do you remember anyone saying “not all Jews are like this” when Israel was under attack from the left? Of course not. It didn’t need to be said because no one conflates the two. When it comes to Muslims, though…well, let’s just say that a clarification is in order every now and then. From ISIS’s path of destruction to the beheading in Ohio to the shooting at Ft. Hood to the bombings at the Boston Marathon to 9/11 to…well, you get the point. Sure, not all Muslims are terrorists. But can we at least admit that most of the terrorists are Muslim?
“What about Timothy McVeigh?” the liberals say. “What about the Crusades?” First of all, when did McVeigh claim that bombing the Oklahoma City Federal Building was done in the name of Christianity? And the Crusades? Really? If you have to jump back in time 1,000 years to create your false equivalency, you need to reexamine your belief system.
It’s not about attacking one religion or another. Regardless of what’s at the core of Islam, too many of its practitioners manage to find the extreme version. American liberals – the same people who jump at the chance to call law-abiding Tea Party folks “extremists” – will never admit it, though. And that’s one of the biggest reasons they have no business in positions of leadership.
