Why are REPUBLICANS Pushing so Hard for DACA Amnesty?
How is it that, in the wake of so many terrorist attacks that happened because our immigration laws are screwed up beyond all reason and logic, we still have Republicans who haven’t gotten it through their thick skulls that our country CAN’T TAKE ANYMORE NONSENSE IMMIGRATION? How is it that, in the wake of Donald Trump’s landslide victory in the Republican primaries last year – a victory paved by his uncompromising stance on illegal immigration – these idiots still think they can sell amnesty to conservative voters?
It’s unimaginable that conservatives actually believe in this stuff, which tells us that they’re either Democrats in disguise or they have been bought off by pro-immigration business interests and that they’ve stuffed the money in their ears to avoid hearing the calls of their constituents.
Case in point is Rep. Scott Taylor of Virginia. Now, we’ve got all the respect in the world for Taylor’s military service (he is a former Navy SEAL) and we’re sure he manages to find conservative logic for supporting the things that he does. Great. Fine. But the fact is that he’s been one of those Republicans who likes to spout off and bash the president whenever he can find a microphone and – worse – he’s weak on immigration.
This week, he appeared on Laura Ingraham’s Fox News show to defend the fact that, in the middle of all the national security problems this country is facing when it comes to immigration, Taylor and 34 other House Republicans thought now was the right time to write a letter to Paul Ryan to make sure that DACA “kids” get their amnesty.
“In this letter you say it’s an important agenda item now to give these 800,000 people brought here as young people amnesty,” Ingraham said. “Why is that, of all the things we have to deal with in our country, why are you so obsessed with catering to the needs of illegal immigrants?”
Excellent. Question.
“You used two words that I completely take issue with. Number one is amnesty,” Taylor said.
(The other word, by the way, was “obsessed.”)
Taylor didn’t find his way around to explaining how providing amnesty to these illegal immigrants is anything OTHER than amnesty, instead choosing to obfuscate the issue by telling Ingraham about all of the other things he’s in favor of: Kate’s Law, more money for the Wall, e-verify, and so on. And that’s fantastic, because all of those things are important. But that’s the light work. That’s the kind of stuff Republicans should be doing…virtually without debate. Because they are THAT rooted in common sense.
But supporting those things doesn’t give you a pass to support this kind of nonsense – not without HUGE concessions from the Democrats. Sure, we can think of some ways we could see our way clear to supporting some form of amnesty for Dreamers. But it would take a hell of a lot more than some random, bogus money for “increased border security.” No, we need real answers. We need a wall. We need an end to chain migration and the Diversity Lottery Program. We need Congress to jump in and back Trump up when he decides to put certain countries on a travel ban. We need a forward-thinking, no-holds-barred agenda that will put the national security priorities of this country ahead of the interests of illegal immigrants. Think Democrats will go along with that? No? Then bye-bye, Dreamers, hope you enjoyed your stay!
